Christmas through the years
We joined Brownies and Rainbows from all over the Midlands to celebrate Christmas throughout modern history.
We were very lucky to visit the Black Country Museum with Brownies and Rainbows from all over the Midlands to kick off Christmas 2024.
We travelled back in time to see shops work places and homes though history, all bedecked for Christmas with tinsel and paper chains. We saw how bricks were hand made and the aluminium workshop and in the music shop Snow Owl played a piano for us that was over a hundred years old! We saw the toys that children would have desperately wanted for Christmas. We tried to work out how to use an old fashioned phone and were shocked how long it would take to 'dial' Brown Owl's phone number and we confused by the reaction of all the adults to a decoration hanging in a home: A Blue Peter Advent Crown!
We saw what mothers needed to look after their babies and kept meeting a black market salesman who wanted to know where the police were.
At Lunch time we met Santa and loved being in the traditional fairground, riding on the 'chair-o-planes' and the ghost train.
Some of us visited the coal mine, but not everyone wanted to, but that was fine, those who didn't played together in the wide open spaces.
