Our Garden July 2024
We created a pollinator garden on an unloved brick planter
We had a surprise message about an opportunity that was impossible to refuse!
The Staffordshire Wildlife Trust Neighbourhood Gardens were wanting to set up a garden in a large brick planter that had just come into their possession. It was neglected, full of rubbish and unloved. it was opposite a pub and bordering the overspill carpark for the prison staff.
They had a couple of trees they could plant and wanted to set up a bee hotel and bug hotel. they had plants that were currently too small to survive and Stafford Sets Seed donated some seeds to scatter. Brown Owl bought some lavender and curry plants and Stafford Rotary also provided funds for more plants as we move on, so this is becoming a community project our brownies are in the thick of.
On the 4th, we left the hall in high spirits to join Neighbourhood Garden people and our tools and the brownies threw themselves into picking the litter, collecting dead/dying woods for the bug hotel and planting the plants to turn the plot into a garden.
In the hour we had available to us, we transformed the plot into something to be proud of. While we were working, we were met by two lovely people from the pub who had seen us arrive and thought they could lend a hand. We put them to work and afterwards, they bought sweets for the girls.
While this was a brilliant activity for the girls in it's own right, this also counts towards their Future Guardians of Cannock Chase badge!
